A General Rant on Capitalism v. Socialism

An overview of my views is as followed. I am in the process of writing a more detailed paper on the matter over the summer. For now....

The recent recession has caused scores of people to blame the free market for the economic downturn, albeit there are so many completely dissimilar factors, such as the subprime mortgage crisis brought to you by Senators Chris Dodd and Barney Frank. An unfortunate new swing in public opinion towards collectivist ideals is to blame. Collectivists, like socialists and communists, seek a utopia where there is nothing but equality. Anybody who knows history and pays attention to current events knows that collectivist states such as the Soviet Union, Cuba, and basically all of Latin America have brought poverty to most every citizen. There is virtually no middle class, but a large lower class and a small upper class. A collectivist’s prime accusation of capitalism is that the system promotes greed and selfishness. But greed is transparent in every society and government. Collectivist governments are greedy when it comes to power. Just because somebody is competing for more wealth does not mean that the individual is greedy. Capitalist governments have only brought prosperity to those nations and individuals that use the system properly, given that filthy politicians do not manipulate the system by pump priming or other futile Marxist strategies. Capitalism is the only form of government where every person can succeed, only if they make wise decisions with where to invest their money. Capitalism is simply survival of the fittest. The weakest businesses do (and should) fail because of poor decisions. This is beneficial to the industry and will encourage the best businesses to raise their standards. Also, collectivism takes away incentives, such as profit. A central government controls the economy, sometimes by dangerous inflation tactics. There is no risk or reward. All of this is why we must fight for the economy the Founders established. Long live capitalism.
